2011 Chevy Volt

Towing Electric Vehicles

Many electric vehicles do not have a neutral position in their transmissions. As a result, if a rear-wheel drive electric car gets towed from the front, the spinning of the wheels will cause the motor to spin. The heat from the friction may cause further problems, damaging the motor or other components.

Towing - The Chevy Volt should be towed with the front wheels off the ground. Better yet, suggests General Motors, a flatbed truck should be used. PDF How to Tow

Tire Sealant and Compressor - The Chevrolet Volt includes a tire sealant and compressor kit that can be used to temporarily seal punctures up to ¼" (6 mm) in the tread area of the tire. It can also be used to inflate an underinflated tire. PDF Tire Sealant and Compressor Kit

Adding Fuel - The Chevrolet Volt is equipped with a pressurized fuel tank and requires a specific refueling process to control evaporative emissions. PDF Adding Fuel

Additional Information about the Volt

The Volt has an extensive electric propulsion system warranty with 8yr/100K warranty including battery pack. Auctions do not need to recertify the vehicle or refurbish the vehicle other than ensure that CEL is not illuminated. This is no different than any other vehicles.

We do not provide battery capacity to dealers, auctions, and customers. This data is only accessible if there is an issue on returned battery pack. Auctions should not be performing high voltage repairs. These type of repairs should only be done with trained technicians.

Auctions can check for diagnostic trouble codes.
