Interior Functional

 

Exterior Lighting Systems and Housing
Standard:

  • Brake lamp bulbs must illuminate properly.
  • All turn signals must be fully operational and the flasher must illuminate the bulbs at an acceptable rate of speed.
  • Headlights and fog lamps (if equipped) must be operational and correctly aimed.
  • Dimmer switch must be operational.
  • All parking lamps must illuminate.
  • Backup lamps must be operational with the transmission in reverse.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Depress the brake pedal and verify operation of all the brake lights. Ensure that the hazard flasher system functions. Then, activate the parking lamps and visually verify operation. Also, turn on the head lamp switch to ensure the aim and operation of all headlights and fog lamps. The daytime running lamps must be fully operational. Checking for damages with the lights on helps to locate cracked lenses. With the ignition turned on, move the turn signal lever to verify turn signal (front and rear) and cornering lamp operation. Ensure the backup lamps illuminate with the transmission in reverse. Each of these important safety items must be operational for vehicle acceptance.

 

Doors
Standard:

  • The door must open and shut with minimum effort and not exhibit any squeaks or pops.
  • Manual or power door locks are operational and the lock solenoids should fully extend and retract.
  • Remotes (if equipped) should be functional and keys should work easily in all lock cylinders.
  • If equipped with child safety lockouts, they should be operational.
  • The automatic safety stop on van doors should be operational on vans equipped with automatic doors.

Recommended Test Procedure:

The door should be opened and closed to check for ease of operation. The remotes, keys, and power door locks should all be tested to verify operation. Ensure that the power door lock solenoids extend fully when power door locks or remotes activate them. Child safety lockouts should be tested to verify operation. An object should be placed in the way of the sliding van door to verify its safety stop mechanism.

 

Sound System
Standard:

  • The radio should be operational.
  • The speakers should be clear.
  • If quipped with CD player, it should be operable and not skip.
  • If equipped with a cassette player, it should be operable and not drag.
  • The antenna should be functional and have no damage.
  • If equipped with an equalizer, it should be functional and audible.

Recommended Test Procedure:

The radio should be turned on to listen for sound quality. The speakers should be clear while testing all functions of the sound system.

 

Horn
Standard:

  • Operational
  • Sound quality

Recommended Test Procedure:

Press horn button to ensure that the horn operates properly.

 

Power Point Cigarette Lighter
Standard:

  • Operational (if equipped)
  • No apparent damage

Recommended Test Procedure:

Ensure that the cigarette lighter heats up and verify that all auxiliary power points are operational.

 

Interior Lights
Standard:

  • The interior lights should be operational.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Visually ensure that all interior lamps illuminate when they should by testing each switch. Ensure all light switches are turned off after they have been tested. Verify all lens covers are present and free of damage.

 

Indicator Lamps
Standard:

  • The indicator lamps must be operational.
  • The indicator lamps must have sufficient brightness.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Turn the ignition on to verify operation of the indicator lamps. The lamps should soon go out when the vehicle is started.

 

Passive Safety Systems
Standard:

  • All seat belts will latch and unlatch.
  • Integrity of all safety belt webbing and buckles.
  • Seat belts show no signs of damaging wear, cuts, fraying, or deterioration.
  • Height adjustable shoulder belts are operational (if equipped).
  • On-board diagnostics should indicate that the supplemental restraint system is operational.
  • Integral child seats should be operational (if equipped).
  • Child seat hardware and latches should be in working order.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Latching and unlatching each buckle to ensure proper operation should test all seat belts. The buckles and belts should be visually inspected to ensure there is no damaging wear, cuts, fraying or deterioration. Inspect the SRS lamp to verify that it comes on, and then goes off after the vehicle is started. The lights should be off when running and on with key-on engine-off. Child safety latches should be tested to ensure proper operation.

 

Tilt Steering Wheel
Standard:

  • Operational (if equipped).
  • Firmly engages at all notch points.
  • No looseness in column.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Apply light upward and downward pressure to the steering column to ensure that there is no looseness in column. Pull tilt lever to ensure that all notch points engage.

 

Windshield Wipers
Standard:

  • The wiper system must be operational.
  • The intermittent wiper system must be operational (if equipped).
  • The windshield washer pump should spray correct pattern on windshield (if equipped).
  • The blades must not be weathered or cracked.
  • The reservoir must be full of approved washer fluid.
  • The cap must be present and fully tightened.
  • The reservoir must not be damaged or leaking.

Recommended Test Procedure:

The wiper system should be inspected to verify that all speeds, intermittent and washer functions operate correctly. The wiper transmission assembly should be in adjustment with the blades parking in the correct position. The blades should be visually inspected for integrity. The reservoir must be filled with the appropriate fluid to the correct level. The cap must be tightened, and then the reservoir must be inspected for leaks or damage.

 

Rear Defroster
Standard:

  • Completely functional (if equipped).
  • Condition of grids (none are torn).

Recommended Test Procedure:

Visually inspect the grids and then check its operation by using the infrared thermometer.

 

Clock Timer
Standard:

  • Verify functionality (if equipped).
  • Reset.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Ensure time is correct and then reset.

 

Alarm Remotes
Standard:

  • Verify functionality (if equipped).

Recommended Test Procedure:

Operate components to check for functionality.

 

A/C Vents
Standard:

  • Operational, presentable
  • Properly distributes air

Recommended Test Procedure:

Turn on blower fan and change flow of vents. Visually inspect for defects.

 

Heater Ventilation and Air Conditioning Controls
Standard:

  • Fully operational
  • Esthetically presentable
  • No objectionable odors

Recommended Test Procedure:

Visually inspect for any scratches or clouded screens. Turn ignition on and verify that all functions work correctly.

 

Seats
Standard:

  • Power and manual seats should adjust to all positions.
  • Reclining mechanisms should adjust easily and firmly engage at all notch points.
  • Seats should have no significant cuts, stains, or burns.
  • Headrests should adjust properly.
  • If equipped with removable seats, all seats must be present.

Recommended Test Procedure:

Seats should be visually inspected for any significant defects. Verify that all seats are present. Each seat should then be adjusted fully in each direction. Headrests and reclining mechanisms should be operated to verify functional integrity.
